HUES OF COMMUNITY (MURAL)
VENUE: 200 FOLSOM ST, SAN FRANCISCO, CA
The mural project for The Crossing in the East Cut neighborhood was a unique fusion of organic abstract and representative elements. The Crossing used to be a bus station, it has been transformed into a community space with restaurants, an outdoor gym, pickeball courts, soccer fields, and dog areas. The mission was to reactivate the bus stop structures with murals.
Inspired by the tech-centric atmosphere, the client desired an abstract piece reflecting the community's innovative spirit, with a nod to their brand colors. The design incorporated gradients and subtle "Easter eggs" to symbolize the ever-evolving city landscape, local elements like pickleball, dogs, soccer balls, leaves and community spirit. During the design phase, an iconic panel featuring a girl biking with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background was presented as an option. Although the initial request was for a primarily abstract mural, this panel resonated strongly with the client, who saw it as a compelling narrative element. Its inclusion not only enhanced the mural's allure but also served as a visual gateway for viewers, inviting them to immerse themselves in the mural's story and the community's unique character. This mural celebrated the East Cut's identity, inviting residents, and visitors to engage with its vibrant, ever-changing narrative. The project was 960 square feet.
